Nutritional intake and yield

A good nutritional intake can significantly increase the yield. Find below the main nutritional contributions useful to increase your yield.  

Nitrogen :

Nitrogen is an essential nutrient whose quantity is directly correlated with yield. Nitrogen should be widely available during the formation of foliage, but also during the growth of tubers.

To bring nitrogen to the soil, one can simply use a natural fertilizer rich in nitrogen. We can also, by anticipating sufficiently, sow legumes upstream: they will store atmospheric nitrogen and make it available to subsequent crops. We are talking about crop rotation.

 Phosphorus :

Phosphorus is essential for root and foliage development because it transports energy. One study showed that yield increased by 0.6 t/ha per additional day during which leaf phosphorus levels were maintained above 0.22%.

For this, you can make humic amendments (compost, manure, green manure, mulch ...); this makes it possible to correct the pH, to provide the soil with assimilable phosphorus.

 Potassium :

Potassium is essential for obtaining high yields. It affects the transport of nutrients and the transfer of sugars from leaves to tubers;

To enrich the soil with potash, add organic matter, such as compost (as it decomposes, it releases available potassium).

Magnesium :

Several studies have shown that regular magnesium intake on an annual basis leads to an increase in yield of 1 to 10%. On the other hand, severe magnesium deficiency can reduce yield by up to 15%.

To deal with magnesium deficiencies, you have several ways. First, it is necessary to avoid excess limescale or potash that leads to magnesium deficiencies. It is also interesting to use cattle manure, or green manure, it is ideal!

It is interesting to have a nutrient-rich soil, but an excess is not recommended. This is why it is essential to identify the type of soil and any deficiencies of the latter in order to provide the most interesting nutrients that will increase your harvest.
